Award Winning Nurse Found the Perfect Atmosphere at COA - Carol Adams
As the Clinical Coordinator for 4 West at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Carol Adams knows the key to success is to stay involved with every aspect of the job. Recently, Adams was recognized for her involvement as Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s 2009 Nurse Exemplar. This award is the organization’s top nursing award that was created to recognize excellence in nursing.      Carol Adams moved to Elizabeth City from West Virginia in 1982. One year later, she entered College of The Albemarle as a nursing student, graduating in 1985. She began working at Chesapeake General Hospital, (now Chesapeake Regional Medical Center), and is Board Certified in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Through many different responsibilities over the years, Adams stated the importance of continuing education. “I found that I could provide much better care for my patients if I continued the learning process, whether it is through special projects on my unit, committee involvement, attending in-services, conferences, etc. The medical field is ever-changing and knowledge is the key to providing the best patient care.”

When asked what Adams liked best about COA, she said, “The small class size, personal attention and convenience of attending classes right here in Elizabeth City.” Adams also said, “COA is the perfect atmosphere, especially for someone who may be hesitant to attend college. The faculty and staff are genuinely concerned about the students and it shows.”
