College of The Albemarle (COA) is creating a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) to help us focus the entire college on improving a single facet of student learning. COA is using this opportunity to focus on problem solving skills.
As a student, you’re solving complex problems that arise in academics and job settings. Assignments in many of our classes will use the process outlined below to encourage and evaluate problem solving.
Why is problem solving important?
- We face problems that need to be solved every day.
- Problem solving helps you achieve your goals.
- Many employers value critical thinking and problem solving more than which degree you earn.
Where are we in the process?
So far, the data we have collected has been encouraging. Many classes throughout the college are using this model, and more are being added each year.
If you’re a COA student, we’d love to hear about your experiences. Please visit our survey to submit your thoughts.
