“All my life I dreamed of becoming something great. In high school, I decided to pursue the dream of becoming a famous world-class chef,” Kierra Jones stated. “I absolutely love cooking and I love to eat, so it’s like a match made in heaven”. In August of 2006, Jones took one step closer to her dream by entering College of The Albemarle’s culinary program at the Edenton-Chowan Campus.
After graduating from Gates County High School in June of 2006, Jones was awarded several scholarships to help pay for her tuition. While attending COA, she was a member of both the TRiO Program and Student Support Services. Jones said, “I loved everything about COA. The staff was so friendly and helpful. My professors, Chef Gus Eddins and Laura Simmons, were very educated and they equipped me with the tools I needed to survive and succeed in the big world.”
While attending COA, Jones had the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida and participate in Disney’s College Program. This educational program offered her the chance to take classes at Disney and work at Epcot in a restaurant called Liberty Inn. About the experience, Jones said, “I loved every part of my Disney College Program experience and the memories I have will be cherished for a lifetime.”
