New Opportunities at College of The Albemarle - Gene Chappell

Opportunity changes everything at College of The Albemarle - just ask Gene Chappell. After working more than four years as a loom mechanic, he found himself out of a job when the company shut down to move operations outside the United States. With the assistance of two scholarships from the College’s Foundation and funds from Workforce Development, Gene enrolled in COA’s HVAC Program at the Edenton-Chowan Campus. “Considering the type of person I am, I wanted a new career where I could meet new people, be challenged, and work outside.” Excelling in the HVAC program, being on the Dean’s List and President’s List, and one year later, with his diploma in hand, he is working full time with a well known, local heating, cooling, and electrical company. “The college staff made it such a smooth transition from the workplace to the classroom. It has been an open door opportunity from the very beginning. College of The Albemarle is an asset to this community.”
