COA lost of pair of thrillers to Lenoir Community College on Wednesday, April 28th. The games were played in Williamston, NC, and were hosted by Williamston High School Coach Hank Tice as a fundraiser for the family of Charlie Brown, a Martin County Sherrif's Deputy who was recently killed in the line of duty.

 

Game 1: Lenoir CC 5, COA 4 (11 innings)

After battling back and forth through 10 innings, COA scored a run in the top of the 11th to take the lead, but Lenoir scored 2 in the bottom for the win. Reliever Jonathan Brantley walked in the winning run with two outs in the 9th, but LCC's Jay Thompson fouled off 3 two-strike pitches before drawing the walk. Kirk Higgins pitched 9 innings, giving up 3 runs on 10 hits, with 7 strike outs. COA had 15 hits, and left at least one runner on base in each of the 11 innings. Kyle Carlson was 3 for 6 with a double, Jake Stone was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs, David Hughes was 3 for 4 with a double, and Tyler Barrington was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Game 2: Lenoir CC 1, COA 0

After catching 11 innings in game 1, LCC's Gabe Brown pitched 6 innings in game 2, giving up 2 hits and striking out 10. Ross Cardwell and Eddie Perkins had the lone hits for COA. Nick Archibald reached 3rd base with no outs in the top of the 7th, but Hughes grounded to second for the first out. With one out, Brian Brown flied out to left field, and Archibald was thrown out at the plate tagging up to end the game. Ross Jarzynka went the distance on the mound for COA, giving up one unearned run on 6 hits.
