College of The Albemarle eliminated Catawba Valley Community College in Round 2 of the NJCAA Region 10 baseball tournament, beating the Bucs 7-3. COA will play the loser of the Lenoir CC/Wilkes CC game at 7pm on Sunday.

Tied at 3 a piece in the 8th inning, COA scored 4 runs with two outs to break the game open. Kyle Carlson's single plated David Hughes and Matt Ittner. After Carlson stole second, Ross Cardwell singled to score Carlson. Jake Stone followed with an RBI-triple for the final margin. Catawba Valley loaded the bases against reliever Ross Jarzynka in the bottom of the 8th, but Jonathan Brantley came on and coaxed an infield pop-up to escape the jam. The Bucs again loaded the bases in the 9th, but Brantley once again got an infield fly to end the game. Kirk Higgins recorded the win, pitching 7 strong innings. Tyler Barrington and Eddie Perkins each had two hits for COA, and Hughes added a solo home run.

In other Saturday games, Lenoir Community College beat Southeastern Community College, and Southeastern later eliminated Patrick Henry Community College. Lenoir and Wilkes were rained out in the late game.
