How do you assist students at COA?

I have the privilege of doing something that encompasses all things I love about higher education: providing students with the best holistic, post-secondary experience they can have in working to achieve whatever dreams or goals they might have.  As Assistant Dean for Student Success and Enrollment Management, I have the pleasure of wearing many different hats in assisting students.  I work with students from the point of inquiry forward, helping them navigate the enrollment process and facilitating placement testing sessions and orientations. My role as an academic advisor allows me to assist them with not only selecting the best classes for their chosen academic path at COA and beyond, but also assisting them with career and personal / life planning.  When a student and I have worked together on something and things finally fall into place and click, it's like Christmas morning for me to see their expressions and share in the excitement / pride / sometimes relief of finally getting to that point of discovery.  I love getting a chance to put my counseling skills to use in that role.  In my role directing student activities on this campus, it's about joining together to gain new knowledge, improving skills, and celebrating the successes and milestones of our students.  Student input is very important to me in planning activities for the campus, which is where being an advisor to our Student Government Association works out well as they play a vital role in carrying out our campus activities.  Assisting students is most definitely a team effort where it's all about working together, and that's what I'm all about.
