Program Overview

College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Medical Office Administration program will teach you the administrative and support skills needed for employment in the medical industry.

Course work includes:

  • Medical terminology
  • Information systems
  • Office management
  • Medical coding
  • Billing and insurance
  • Legal and ethical issues

Work-Based Learning (WBL)

WBL offers the opportunity to work for an employer in a position directly related to your program of study, earning you real-world experience by applying course instruction in an actual workplace setting.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will:

  1. Utilize appropriate technology relevant to a healthcare environment to complete basic administrative tasks
  2. Manage administrative projects in the healthcare environment while communicating effectively in oral and written formats
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and show the ability to apply that knowledge in major healthcare administrative
    tasks such as scheduling, billing and coding
