COA Anniversary Week/Day Proclamation

Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, President of College of The Albemarle received a Proclamation for Mayor Roger A. McLean at Monday evening’s council meeting. The Proclamation is for College of The Albemarle Anniversary Week and College of The Albemarle Day. The proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS, College of The Albemarle, charted on December 16, 1960, was the first college chartered by the state under the Community College Act of 1957 serving seven counties in Northeastern North Carolina and went on to open its doors on September 21, 1961 to 113 students offering one program of study; and
WHEREAS, College of The Albemarle currently serves over 10,000 students in 31 programs of study, offering diverse Workforce Development and Continuing Education courses and Small Business assistance, and numerous Foundational Studies programs at three campus locations and several sites throughout the seven county service area; and
WHEREAS, College of The Albemarle, whose mission has stayed true to its original vision, continues to strive toward excellence by providing education, training, and re-training in fields such as health sciences, vocational/technical education, basic skills, aviation technology, and college transfer programs; and
WHEREAS, College of The Albemarle’s Board of Trustees, students, faculty, and staff, as well as business and community partners, have demonstrated outstanding professional and academic efforts during the past fifty years and look towards the college’s next fifty years with excitement, passion, and dedication – continuing to serve the citizens of Northeastern North Carolina.
Now, therefore, be it proclaimed, that I, Mayor Roger A. McLean, Mayor of the City of Elizabeth City on behalf of the City Council and all citizens of our area, do hereby proclaim September 18 – 24, 2011 as “College of The Albemarle Anniversary Week” and September 21, 2011 as “College of The Albemarle Day” in our City, recognizing all the significant contributions to education, business, industry, and civics rendered by this fine College.
ADOPTED, this the 12th day of September 2011.
College of The Albemarle will be hold it’s Fantastic First 50 Festival on Wednesday, September 21st from 2 to 6 p.m. on the front lawn of the Elizabeth City Campus. Please join us on “College of The Albemarle Day” for music, food, demonstrations, and fun for the entire family.
