Surgical Technology Pinning Held

Thirteen Surgical Technology graduates received their surgical technology pins and caps at College of The Albemarle’s (COA’s) tenth annual pinning ceremony in late July. Held in the COA Auditorium, the late afternoon ceremony was a traditional service and included pinning lapel pins and taking the Surgical Technologists’ Pledge.

Awards were presented to the following surgical technology graduates for their dedication to the program as follows:  Patrice Johnson received the Academic Excellence Award; Academic Recognition awards were presented to: Joy Doncevic, Lisa Gregory, Patrice Johnson, Max Kubatz, Melinda Mack, and Raleigh White.  Tami Williams received the Albemarle Hospital Volunteer Services Scholarship.

College of The Albemarle’s Surgical Technology Class of 2012 includes:

Camden County:  Tami Williams
Currituck County:  Bambi Doughtie, Patrice Johnson, Melinda Mack, and Alicia Pritchett
Gates County:  Raleigh White and Samantha Meehan.
Pasquotank County:  Sarah Cartwright, Joy Doncevic, Lisa Gregory, and Elizabeth Markham.
Perquimans County:  Santana Pelch
Wake County:  Maxmillian Kubatz

Since their pinning ceremony, ten of the thirteen graduates have already qualified as Certified Surgical Technologists on their first attempt with a class pass rate of 77% on the CST exam – well above the 2011 national pass rate of 58.8% on this exam.
