To help prepare you, COA offers several Health Care occupations courses through Workforce Development and Continuing Education. And this is just the beginning! These courses give you the opportunity to work your way up in a field where you can make a real difference right here at home. 
Nurse Aide
This course introduces you to basic nursing skills required to provide personal care in a health care setting. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to sit for  the competency exam through PearsonVue for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

Pharmacy Technician
The course provides you with the basic knowledge and skills required to work as a technician in a drug store or pharmacy. 
Elizabeth City

Nurse Aide II
This course prepares you to perform more complex skills for patients or residents. . Upon satisfactory completion you will be  eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Medication Aide for Long-Term Care
This course covers the basic preparation for the administration of medications by unlicensed persons in a variety of settings. Upon successful completion, you are also eligible to challenge the Medication Tech certification online.
Elizabeth City

Effective Treatment for Alzheimer’s 
This course (formerly called Caring Effectively) covers the psychological, social, and physical aspects of aging. It will prepare the student to care more effectively for people with memory loss. This course includes 3 hours of clinical practice and price includes class materials. This is an ideal course for NAI and II students and all caregivers. 
Roanoke Island Campus
October 7 - November 4, T 2:00-5:00 pm

Nurse Aide Refresher 
This course consists of classroom and lab review of basic nursing care performed by the Nurse Aide I. The goal is to build upon your experience and knowledge and prepare you to take the NC Nurse Aide I written exam and skills evaluation through PearsonVue®.
