Congratulations to Head Coach Norbie Wilson and the COA baseball team and coaches on a very successful first season. The Dolphins concluded the season last week at the NJCAA Region 10 tournament in Martinsville, VA, finishing 4th. For the season, COA finished with a record of 22-21, including a 13-12 conference record and wins over some nationally-ranked teams.

Two Dolphin players were selected All-Region. Third baseman Jake Stone was a first-team selection, and Pitcher Eddie Perkins was a second-team selection.

Offensively, Stone led the team with 68 hits, including 21 doubles, 2 triples, 13 home runs, 47 runs scored, 56 runs batted in, a .453 batting average, .542 on base percentage, and a conference-leading 1.12 slugging percentage. He finished third in voting for Region 10 player-of-the-year. Catcher David Hughes batted .360 for the Dolphins this year, and Designated Hitter Gavin Mizelle batted .317 with 9 doubles and 6 home runs.

Defensively, COA was led by Centerfielder Tyler Barrington, who had 93 put outs, 8 assists, and no errors.

On the mound, Perkins recorded a 6-3 record with 4 saves, while posting a team-leading 4.08 earned run average with 54 strikeouts in 57.1 innings. Jonathan Brantley was 6-2 with 1 save, and Kirk Higgins was 5-2, with 49 strikeouts in a team-high 78 innings of work.

Four Dolphin players have been invited to join the Outer Banks Daredevils this summer as conditional players, filling roster spots until other Daredevil team members finish their NCAA seasons. Stone, Perkins, and Barrington will join Shortstop Matt Ittner on the early Daredevils roster. The OBX Daredevils are part of the Coastal Plain League, which is an elite wood-bat summer league for collegiate players.

With the bulk of the COA team coming back, and a good recruiting class shaping up, the Dolphins look to be contenders in Region 10 next year. They will scrimmage often this coming fall. COA will also field a women's softball team this coming year, coached by Mike Pierce. Get ready for an exciting athletic year in 2010-2011, and thanks to everyone for your support of COA athletics this past season.
