Twelve practical nursing students and ten surgical technology students received their pins Tuesday evening during College of The Albemarle's annual pinning ceremony. Held in the auditorium at the college's Elizabeth City campus, the ceremony was a traditional service for the graduates and included pinning nursing and surgical technology pins, lighting nightingale lamps and candles, and taking their pledges.
Awards were presented to the following practical nursing graduates: Katelyn Allen received the Academic Achievement Award, which is presented to the student with the highest grade point average at the completion of the program. A peer nominated award, the Mildred Moore Award of Excellence, named for the program's founder and awarded for dependability, honesty, and proficiency was awarded to Latasha Roberson. Graduates Michelle Evans, Latasha Roberson, and Shawona Sutton were recognized for perfect attendance in the classroom, lab, and at clinical sites.
Awards were presented to the following surgical technology graduates for their dedication to the program as follows: Marcella Arnold received the Academic Excellence Award and Adrianna Gerszewski received the Clinical Excellence Award.
