Bereavement Group - The death of someone central in our lives brings with it a time of enormous emotional turmoil.  The Bereavement Group meets twice a month with the goal of creating a space for grieving person to come together.

Children and Youth Partnership for Dare County - This is a private non-profit organization that serves children and their families in Dare County.  It administers the Smart Start Program, provides child care resource and referral services for the community, and publishes the Family Resource Guide.  www.darekids.org

Dare County Social Services Department - The department administers a variety of economic and social services programs including Food Stamps, Medicaid, Health Choice, and Work First Programs, as well as investigating child and elderly abuse and neglect complaints, providing foster care and adoption services, and in-home services.  www.dcdss.org

Emergeny Food and Shelter/Steward McKinley Homeless Assistance Act (FEMA) - Provides assistance with rent and mortgage in an emergency situation.  Contact Dare County Department of Social Services for more information www.dcdss.org

Friends of Youth - An organization that serves at –risk youth ages 6-17 in need of an adult mentor and friend.  Adult volunteers are trained and matched one on one with young people to provide continuing, caring companionship.

Family Planning Program - Family Planning is available by appointment through the Dare County Department of Public health.  Some services are Medicaid-reimbursable for eligible patients or provided through a sliding fee scale for patients with the ability to pay.

Food Bank, Dare County - Food Banks are designed to give temporary aid to those in need.  Locations: Mt. GEM Center – GEM delivers dementia care, education and support with love and expertise. GEM provides a positive and supportive day environment for adults with memory loss, physical and mental disabilities and those in need of socialization. A Caregiver support group is also available for family members. The GEM Center also has “Project Rebound” to care for high school students on suspension.
