Monthly Benefit Amounts

GI Bill monthly benefits are tax-free and should not be reported as income on either federal or state income tax.

You will receive full benefits if you are a full-time student take 12 or more credit hours (special prorated rules apply for the summer term). If you are registered for less than 6 credit hours, your are registered for "less than one half-time".

In general, if you are registered for less than one-half time hours, you will not receive a monthly check. Instead, you will recieve tuition and fees in the amount of tuition you paid for the term, not to exceed your one half-time amount.

Monthly Checks

Your monthly check may either be mailed directly to you or direct deposited into your bank account. If this is your first enrollment at College of The Albemarle, your first check will not arrive for 8-10 weeks after all transcripts have been received at COA and you have registered for classes.

If your check does not arrive on time and you are Chapters 30, 1606, or 1607 you may not have verified your attendance at the end of the month. If you do not verify, you will not be paid. To verify call 1-877-823-2378 (toll free) or www.gibill.va.gov/wave/ If you did not get paid or received the wrong amount, call 1-888-442-4551 (toll free) or www.gibill.va.gov (click on Submit a Question). If you are Chapter 31, you should call 1-800-827-1000.
