College of The Albemarle offers the following programs to increase participants’ competence in specialized emergency and public service occupational areas. FIRE & RESCUE SERVICE TRAINING provides a continuous program of training and education which prepares firefighters to serve their communities. Training sessions are held in fire departments throughout our seven county service area, allowing firefighters to be trained as an organized group utilizing equipment they would ordinarily use in controlling fires.

LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING courses are specifically designed for those individuals engaged in law enforcement activities. In-service courses mandated by the NC Criminal Justice Commission Training and Standards Division (including those for Telecommunicators and Detention Officers) are provided via online and traditional classroom delivery. At the request of local agencies, COA is also pleased to sponsor additional programs to keep law enforcement officers abreast of legal and technological advancements and add to their professional skills in a wide variety of areas.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN & PARAMEDIC TRAINING classes are held to meet both the initial training and continuing education requirements for medical responders in the college's service area. The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services works with College of The Albemarle in developing classes for rescue squad units. CORRECTIONS OFFICER TRAINING is now available through COA. This week-long course provides the continuing education requirements for NC Department of Corrections personnel serving at state prisons such as Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City.
College of The Albemarle is also working towards gaining its certification to offer DETENTION OFFICER TRAINING – an intensive, month long program for those interested in a serving at the county or municipal level.
