College of The Albemarle offers the following programs to increase participants' competence in specialized emergency and public service occupational areas. Fees are waived for active duty personnel at agencies in the COA service area. Call (252) 335-0821 x 2518 for information on the latest courses and registration forms.

Fire & Rescue Service Training provides a continuous program of training and education which prepares firefighters to serve their communities. Training sessions are held in fire departments throughout our seven county service area, allowing firefighters to be trained as an organized group utilizing equipment they would ordinarily use in controlling fires.

Basic Law Enforcement Training is a certificate program designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers. Students participate in over 600 hours of training including numerous classroom tests, physical training, and a physical assessment. At the end of the course, students will sit for the certification examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Basic Law Enforcement Training is a 16-week course that is typically offered twice a year. For more information, please call 252-335-0821 x 2313.

In-service courses mandated by the NC Criminal Justice Commission Training and Standards Division (including those for Telecommunicators and Detention Officers) are provided both online and by traditional classroom delivery. 

Advanced Law Enforcement Training courses are now being offered at College of The Albemarle. These courses are designed to offer current law enforcement officers advanced learning opportunities that may be counted towards an Intermediate or Advanced Law Enforcement certificate.

Emergency Medical Technician & Paramedic Training classes are held to meet both the initial training and continuing education requirements for medical responders in the college’s service area. The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services works with College of The Albemarle in developing classes for EMS & Rescue Squad agencies. Classes offered include EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate, and EMT Basic To Paramedic.

You can obtain additional information on the Prerequisites/Qualification for each of these courses by contacting the EMS Education Coordinator.

Continuing Education is being provided by COA throught the respected EMS agencies in the counties. Please contact them for dates and time of those classes.

Corrections Officer Training is now available through COA. This week-long course provides the continuing education requirements for NC Department of Corrections personnel serving at state prisons such as Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City.

College of The Albemarle is also working towards gaining its certification to offer Detention Officer Training – an intensive, month long program for those interested in a serving at the county or municipal level.
