Nurse Aide

Course Prerequisites

Reading Placement Test

This requirement can be waived with a score of 36 on the ASSET test, a 61 on the COMPASS test, a 104 or higher on the NC-DAP, or a college transcript showing a C or higher in ENG 111.

Nurse Aide Orientation – Mandatory session before class starts.

Paperwork and payment are due at the time of registration.

Nurse Aide Level I

This 160-hour course introduces basic nursing skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents or clients in a health care setting. Class, laboratory, and clinical experiences are included. Topics include communication, safety, patient rights, personal care, vital signs, elimination, nutrition, emergencies, rehabilitation and mental health. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to sit for the competency exam through PearsonVue for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

Nurse Aide Level II

The Nurse Aide II course prepares graduates to perform more complex skills for patients or residents. A skill evaluation is required for documenting student competency. The 176-hour course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Nurse Aide II has the same pre-requisites as Nurse Aide I, with the addition of producing a copy of your HS transcript or GED. In addition, students must currently be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I registry.
