COA & NCWorks Partner to Offer CTE Bootcamp

Barco — Through a grant from the NC Division of Workforce Solutions, College of The Albemarle (COA) and NCWorks are excited to announce a bootcamp for Career and Technical Education (CTE) “influencers” within our local school districts.

2019 CTE Bootcamp

Date Time Location Register
Aug. 5 – 8 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Regional Aviation & Technical Training Center contact Michelle Waters at

The four-day bootcamp will offer 20 spots for local high school teachers, administrators and/or counselors to experience firsthand the opportunities offered through manufacturing’s high-tech and high-wage careers. These CTE influencers will gain knowledge and accessibility of the employment opportunities in the surrounding area to share with their high school students as they prepare for their future.

The first two days will provide hands-on activities that allow participants to take a concept from drawing and design, through the Computer-Aided Drafting lab, to actual production in the Machining lab. The final two days will consist of tours to regional employers for participants to see the career options that are available within our area. A $100 per day stipend will be awarded to those who apply, qualify and are selected to attend. Lunch will be provided each day, as well as transportation to the tours of the regional employers.

“This a great opportunity for representatives from our local high schools to get a sample of the College to Career experience that students can benefit from,” said Michelle Waters, Dean, Business, Industry and Applied Technologies; Campus Administrator, Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center. “The grant through NCWorks will cover the cost of those who apply and will allow us to offer the camp that we hope influencers will take advantage of; honing in on the CTE programs that provide students an alternative to a traditional four-year college or university setting.”

Applications are due June 15, 2019 and applicants will be notified of their selection by July 1, 2019, via email. If interested, please contact Michelle Waters at
