BLET Program: Dexter Green

Basic Law Enforcement Training ’16

Dexter Green began the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at College of The Albemarle (COA) in August of 2016. The Elizabeth City Police Department sponsored Green’s enrollment in the program, as he had already been hired onto the force. Green graduated from the program in December of 2016 and immediately began work as an officer with the Elizabeth City Police Department.

While enrolled in the BLET program, Officer Green served as president of the 2016 class. As president, he served as a mentor to his fellow students and continues to assist with the program as his schedule allows.

Officer Green shared that the BLET program at COA appealed to him because of his military background. Having served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, Green wished to continue the type of regimented work that he had grown accustomed to while in the military.

When asked about the training he received at COA, Officer Green stated, “The BLET program gives you the basics needed to get out on the street and apply what you’ve learned. While every situation you face is different and you are learning something new each day while on the job, the program gives you the foundation to begin working as an officer.”
