College of The Albemarle (COA) Students
Some courses may require proctored exams monitored by impartial individuals (proctors) to help ensure the security and integrity of each exam. If a course requires proctored exams, this information is clearly indicated in the course syllabus at the beginning of the course. You may take proctored exams for no charge at COA – Elizabeth City, COA – Edenton-Chowan or COA – Dare.
If you live outside the COA service area, you may arrange for a qualified proctor to supervise your exam. Please be advised that proctors may charge you a fee for their services, and that a relative, no matter what their position, may not serve as your proctor. For more information about proctor qualifications and exam procedures, refer to the Proctoring and Examination Security Policy.
If you’re a non-COA student who requires proctoring services for exams through COA, please contact the COA – Elizabeth City Testing Center at email@example.com; please include the information listed below in your email. For proctoring services for placement testing, please see the instructions listed below under “Placement Testing for Non-COA Students.”
- Student’s name
- Student’s contact information (i.e. email, phone)
- Name of college or university
- Course name (e.g. MAT 143, BIO 169)
- Type of exam (e.g. exam 1, midterm, final)
- Instructor’s contact information (i.e. email, phone)
- COA campus (i.e. Elizabeth City, Edenton-Chowan or Dare)
- Date and time requested (See Testing Center hours of operation for each campus)
We’ll then send a “response email,” generally within 24 hours of the next business day, which will contain an explanation of the process and procedures for scheduling proctoring services.
If your college or university participates with the University of North Carolina (UNC) Online service, contact the COA – Elizabeth City Testing Center by email at firstname.lastname@example.org and include all of the above listed information prior to scheduling an appointment through the UNC Online service to ensure campus and proctor availability.
Placement Testing for Non-COA Students
COA is now a “Remote Test Site” for Accuplacer. Please have your College or University Testing Center Department register your placement test(s) through the “Voucher” link in Accuplacer by using the “Generate Remote Test Voucher” link. Accuplacer will then generate a “Remote Voucher Notification” email containing the “Voucher Number” required to launch the requested test(s). This voucher number will also ensure that your college or university will have access to the test(s) scores. Once this email is received you’ll receive a response email regarding the process to follow to schedule a date, time and campus in which the test(s) will be taken.
If you’re not currently enrolled or employed at COA and require the use of our proctoring services, you’ll be asked to pay a non-refundable $25.00 fee through the campus cashier’s office, and provide a valid photo identification at the time of the exam. The COA – Elizabeth City cashier’s window is located in building A. To make a payment at either COA – Edenton-Chowan or COA – Dare, please inquire at the front desk. If you can’t make it to a campus during normal office hours, you may pay fees in advance to the COA – Elizabeth City cashier’s office by phone at 252-335-0821 ext. 2248.
COA’s Testing Center follows the college’s Proctoring and Examination Security Policy, available in the Policy and Procedure Manual (Chapter 3, Instructional Organization, Section 3-27).
