College of The Albemarle’s fourth location
within its seven county service area is located in Currituck. This state-of-the-art, 37,000 square foot facility is unique in its appearance and design, housing four aviation labs focusing on sheet metal, avionics, composites, and power plant. In addition it houses four classrooms, one of which is a scale-up classroom that promotes problem-based learning encourages teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking. Each lab and classroom will be equipped with the latest in high tech teaching tools and aviation equipment. The college has acquired two aircraft for its instructional program - a Cherokee 140 and a Cessna Commuter.
With its SACS certification the center is able to offer several programs of study including Aviation Systems Technology (FAA certified), Architectural Technology, Computer Integrated Machining, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. In addition, we will offer a new program in Sustainability Technologies which will be offered at the Edenton-Chowan Campus. Students completing these programs of study will have the skills and knowledge to secure a high tech, high paying job with local and nationally known employers.
This facility is a collaborative project between College of The Albemarle and Currituck County.
