College of The Albemarle’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Recognized as 2024 REACH Chapter

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Nu Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has been named a 2024 REACH Chapter, a national honor awarded to chapters that demonstrate exceptional success in membership acceptance and engagement. This designation, part of PTK’s REACH Rewards program, celebrates the chapter’s ongoing efforts to connect students with leadership, scholarship and service opportunities.

COA’s Nu Nu Chapter is among a select group of chapters across the country to earn this honor. In 2024, the chapter welcomed 136 new members — evidence of its continued commitment to student success and academic excellence. To celebrate this achievement, the chapter has been awarded 16 Phi Theta Kappa graduation stoles for members to wear at commencement and induction ceremonies.

“With every new member, we are building a stronger community of scholars who are committed to excellence, service and leadership,” said Leah Jones, Associate Professor of Academic Foundations – English and PTK Chapter Advisor. “Our students continually inspire us with their dedication and passion. It’s a privilege to support them on this journey.”
Established in April 1964, the Nu Nu Chapter has a long-standing tradition of excellence at COA. In recent years, Phi Theta Kappa International expanded its eligibility criteria to include students in shorter academic programs, which has allowed COA’s chapter to grow to 306 currently enrolled students and active alumni. This includes students and recent graduates from across COA’s seven-county service area.

Nu Nu Chapter members actively participate in regional and national PTK events, including the Carolinas Regional Convention. Their involvement offers access to leadership development, academic enrichment and scholarship opportunities.

As the Nu Nu Chapter continues its work, it remains focused on cultivating student leadership, strengthening community connections, and transforming tomorrows through academic excellence and service. This month, the induction ceremony for the 2025–26 academic year officially welcomed the next group of student scholars into the chapter.
