Small Business Counseling and Training
College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Small Business Center (SBC) offers the information and assistance you’ll need to succeed with your small business, including help with marketing, sales, bookkeeping and management. SBC, a state-funded organization and part of the Small Business Center Network, offers free services including:
- Confidential one-on-one counseling to help you build a successful business
- Training and technical assistance with starting your business
- Business skills seminars, workshops and courses
- Resource and referral services — your one-stop entrepreneur’s shop
- A small business library
To get started, submit a request for counseling. The Small Business Center director will contact you within five business days to schedule an appointment.

This program features 22 modules on key business growth topics such as
- Cash flow
- Effective business websites
- Basics of finance
- Hiring staff
- Inventory management
- Sales forecasting
- Selling online
- Social media marketing
HP LIFE is designed to supplement your counseling with the SBC at COA and can be used prior to free counseling sessions or between sessions for both potential business owners and existing business owners who need to increase their skill sets. This study is available through a partnership between the North Carolina Small Business Center Network (SBCN) and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) and provides you with a dated Certificate of Completion for each module, which you can add to your business plan or portfolio.
