Students: Please apply for graduation using MySerivce. For instructions, download our step-by-step guide (PDF). You’ll need to apply for graduation if you’re planning to earn a degree, diploma or certificate from College of The Albemarle (COA), even if you’re not participating in the commencement ceremony.

How to Apply for Graduation
Meet with your advisor/department chair for a final review of your degree/audit to determine that all coursework or course substitutions have been or will be completed by the end of the term in which you are requesting to graduate. Please notify the Registrar in writing, if you are taking courses at another college to complete your program requirements. All coursework and/or course substitutions must be completed and a final grade must be submitted to the Registrar no later than the last day of COA exams for that semester.
Satisfy all debts with COA Business Office and the library.
Regularly check your COA Gmail account for instructions relating to the commencement ceremony.
Diplomas will be mailed approximately six weeks after semester grades are confirmed and graduation audits are completed. You won’t receive your diploma if you haven’t satisfied all debts at COA.

Graduation application deadlines are September 15 for fall, February 15 for spring, and June 15 for summer.
Graduation tickets may be picked up at the front desk on any COA campus.
To qualify for graduation honors, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.55 or higher.
Fall and summer commencement ceremonies are held at COA – Elizabeth City. Spring commencement ceremonies are held at COA – Dare and COA – Elizabeth City, with two ceremonies at the Elizabeth City campus.
Caps and gowns may be purchased through the COA Bookstore. Please contact the bookstore for current pricing.
No, there is no graduation rehearsal. Graduates will receive instructions before the ceremony.
COA does not currently have a written dress code for graduates participating in the ceremony.
The graduation ceremony is limited to eligible participants. If you have not completed all required coursework, you may not be eligible to participate. Please contact the Registrar’s Office – [email protected], if you have questions about your graduation status.
Students will be notified of the number of tickets they will receive. If additional tickets become available, students will be notified by email.
Yes. Please email the Registrar’s Office – [email protected] to make arrangements for someone else to pick up your tickets.
Yes. Anyone who will occupy a seat must have a ticket.
No, participation in the graduation ceremony is not required. Your diploma will be mailed to the address on file approximately four to six weeks after the ceremony.
